Maltese article

[edit]

Looks good. I just changed some formatting. Elf | Talk 05:19, 10 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ref fixes look good; sorry I interpreted the info incorrectly the first time. You can find info on bibliography formats from the Wikipedia:Manual of Style; there's a link in the summary box on the right for Cite Sources. I've been editing Reference sections in all the dog-related articles to match the example format that they provide there. Elf | Talk 19:47, 10 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading images

[edit]

Hmm, I see that the process isn't intuitively obvious. So here are some hints:

  1. The file (photos, pictures, whatever) that you want to add to Wikipedia has to be on your computer first. So if it's on some other web site (for example), you need to save a copy of it on your computer.
  2. Then click "Upload file" in Wikipedia (on left side of screen).
  3. That page has a Browse button that you can use to find it on your computer.
  4. In the Summary section, put a good description of the photo, and of its source (for example, did you take the picture? Or did you find it at xxx.com? or whatever), and under what license it's legal to put it onto public-domain Wikipedia. In other words, if you just happen to find a photo on another web site, and you don't know its copyright status, you really need to try to find that before you upload the file to wikipedia--otherwise its status stays in limbo and it might eventually have to be deleted again. Best photos are those known to be in the public domain (merely appearing on the web does NOT make it public domain) or that the photographer will release under GFDL (which is how I've released all of my photos). Some argument can be made for fair use of copyrighted photos, but there's a lot of disagreement about whether we should be including those photos on wikipedia, since GFDL gives everyone the right to copy the content and we can't really pass along that right to other people for copyrighted material.
  5. Turn on the checkbox that the copyrigth holder allows it to be posted (as described above).
  6. Click Upload File. This should upload the file and display a link as to where it's located in wikipedia--e.g., Image:myphoto.jpg.
  7. Then you can use that info to insert the picture into an article, using syntax like this: [[Image:myphoto.jpg]]. Details on other formatting are at Wikipedia:Picture tutorial.

Hope this answers the questions you had. Let me know if not. (Sorry, I've not been online much recently.) Elf | Talk 19:25, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of people from Texas

[edit]

I hope you know what a wonderful job you are doing on this article. Other states will have to use it as an example. Thank you. -Acjelen 02:53, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, you really went to work on this! Thanks. That's a lot of effort. You zipped through it so fast that I didn't get a chance to suggest that you compare the articles that you find with the list (and categorization) on the Terrier page to try to catch any missing info. :-) Elf | Talk 16:15, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Texas History

[edit]

Thanks, I wrote the intro and the Spanish and Mexican Texas articles, but the rest was transcirbed from other articles, all I did was bring it together. If you are from Texas you might want to consider joining, Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas, and depending on what part of the state your from, Wikipedia:U.S._Southern_wikipedians'_notice_board. Again welcome. -JCarriker 09:33, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

You can sign up under the participants, I think it's chronological order. It be the same thing for any other WikiProject or board you want to join. You can find more at Wikipedia:WikiProject. Personally I'm a memeber of several as well as the Coordinator, some might say overlord of WikiProject U.S. regions, which is always looking for new participants. -JCarriker 16:35, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

Categories

[edit]

Great work on the categories. One suggestion--you don't have to add categories that are already covered. For example, on Kent Hance, you added "Category:Texas politicians". However, Hance was already in "Category:Texas State Senators", a subcategory of "Texas politicians", and so the second one didn't need to be added. See Wikipedia:Categorizations for more. Best wishes, Meelar (talk) 19:27, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

Marshall, Texas

[edit]

Thanks, its nice to hear you think so. Bringing articles up to featured status used to be one of my goals, but seeing what going on with the Hatshepsut FAC nomination , I'm not sure I'll try to write anymore with that goal in mind. I doubt the Marshall article would pass as a candidate with all of the pet-peves and agendas on the page now. Again, thanks. - JCarriker 03:24, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

Texas template

[edit]

I appologize ahead for clogging up your talk page with this.

Recently, User:Ed g2s keeps on changing the Texas template to a plain version and won't explain why. I need you guys to support me to keep the Texas template that has been active.

This is the Texas template that has been active, before that user erased it, see below:

Flag of Texas State of Texas
Capital Austin
State flower

This is the template that User:Ed g2s (that he made) and has been reverting to, see below:

I want you guys to have some input and decide which one is best for Texas. Like I said, I support the colorful template, but Ed g2s has been reverting it without explaination and has threatened to block me if I revert again to the colorful one. I think the colorful one is more aesthetic looking. Ed g2s doesn't seem to think so and keeps on erasing it to a plain version. Also, he's not even from Texas, he's from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Let's have a vote on this on Template talk:Texas. Thank you for everyone's time. – UH Collegian 19:36, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just want to say, thank you for your support of the "colorful" version. I have been to Dallas and Arlington, but not Fort Worth. I am not from anywhere near North Texas though, but from Sugar Land (of the Greater Houston area). I like what I saw from my last visit to North Texas, especially with two large cities almost side-by-side and many other larger cities in the area as well. There is only one major city in the Greater Houston area. – UH Collegian 21:25, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image GFDL assumptions

[edit]

"Can the same picture that's on the internet on numerous different websites be considered GFDL?" No, no more than a piece of music that's been copied and distributed (illegally) among dozens of friends and clandestine websites can be considered public domain. The creator of a work or whoever it is that holds the rights to it is the only one who can release an item under GFDL or PD, or any other license, for that matter. If the image has been replicated wildly, it does make it hard to track down who the originator was. Life is sometimes hard. ;-) Elf | Talk 21:36, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the award

[edit]

Thank you so much for the kindness award. I've been pounding the keyboard here for a year and a half and this is only the 2nd I've ever received. :-) I have gotten lots of thanks, though, so it's not so bad. I'll treasure this one, though, for sure. Also made me go look at the list of existing awards and I'll try to remember to note other people's good work, too. Hi there Momma, and nice to meet you! I've just finished to do some massive work on the Texas Ranger Division article, and if you have the time, I'd like you to have a look at it. Also, I've just submitted it to Peer Review, and I'd love to have your input as a Texan and a serious critic. *Hugs*, Shauri Yes babe? 03:08, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza made less bureaucratic

[edit]

Hello again, I have (unilatterly) taken away the 'assembly' idea, as per my reasons at that edit summary and per Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Charter. I have left the admin general, as some leadership is good. Now, all you have to do is be a member to establish consensus, the whole assembly idea is gone. Also, I have added an advisory committee, of four members, with limited power besides watching over the admin general and making sure he doesn't do anything stupid. Please look at the ammended charter, and I would love a comment. Redwolf24 (talk) 00:24, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza

[edit]

Your encouragement and continued friendship are, as always, apreciated. I was ameniable to your ideas, but I'm afraid Esperanza is already not going in the direction I wanted. I had hoped that through a balanced government Esperanza would achieve a balance between the benevolent dictatorships of other areas like AMA, but not be the mob rule that discourages people that exists throughout much of wikipedia. Instead I find that by letting people in the house before the blueprints were complete, that they reject them and that my house is not in the style that I had hoped. -JCarriker 05:42, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If you are willing to intiate a dialogue, I will consider participating in it, however I feel so demoralized and hopless with the situation that I will not initiate one myself. -JCarriker 05:59, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Maltmomma. As you may or may not know, there have been some troubles with Esperanza. So now, as a last ditch to save the community, please vote at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Reform on all neccisary polls. P.S. I'm very sorry for spamming you all with these messages, and this will be the last time. I recommend putting ESP on your watchlist. Cheers and please look at that, let's stop the civil war then. You are missing a </font> tag in your sig that messes up other people's writing. Just thought you'd like to know. Cheers. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:01, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't really care what the date font is in, although I'm not sure if you can have it your way without messing up other people's writing (see User talk:JCarriker... it wasn't doing any harm, it was just a little hard to read sometimes.). The new sig seems much better. Thanks. Cheers. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:14, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I was going to ask you the same thing Lord Voldy here did after reading Carricker's page. I note from LV's page that you've edited the sig; awesome. However, since the rendered signature is quite long, I thought I'd write the script for you to the shortest possible length while still maintaining the features you want. Hello Spamlist!

[edit]

Ah, my first ever spam mass produced and mailed to the spamlist. Well first of all let me re-state that we have an irc channel, #wp-esperanza, and its been rather empty, so I'd appreciate it if you come, even if you just idle about. Now, the evil polls have closed, and I left a justification note for running the evil polls. Nothing has really changed, but at least I have somewhat of a consensus. I hope to figure out a way to overturn my power to JCarriker somehow, I'll figure out a way :-) Meanwhile, I've been busy reforming the mediation system where I am the chairman now, er, acting chairman. Got your e-mail

[edit]

Sorry I have only recently seen you e-mail. I am staying for now but what I think you can best do for Esperanza is to run for the Advisory Committee. I am currently planning an orangization that, will do some of the things that Esperanza was intended to do but has rejected. Mainly attempt to study wikipedia and provide useful resources about wikipedia and wikipedians that do not currently exist- or at least in a readily accessable form. I would appreciated your help with this when I go public with it but, understandbly I hope, I am moving rather cautiously with this one than I did with Esperanza. I think the Assembly is dead, and I find it most disconcerting that rather than tolerate a new idea it has been desceneded on and destroyed, but I get the message and will not pursue it any further—for now. Its seems here as in the real world tolerance is an ideal often talked about and sought, but rarely found. Oh well, at least as long as Jimbo, and others like Angela and Anthere lead the way, wikipedia will be one of the most tolerant communities and objective sources that is humanly possible in our time. It's those userer with the mob rule mentality that concern me. However, I imagine I have been far to talkative, and open in airing my frustrations than would exemplify wikiquette, so I leave it at that. As always your continued freindship and conern are appreciated. -JCarriker 22:53, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I really like what you're doing with this, great job, really. You're a true asset to Wikipedia. I give you a Barnstar in recognition of your work. :-) --File:Ottawa flag.png Spinboy 19:17, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Our new admin general, Essjay, has set the date for the advisory committee elections, that date being October 7th. By UTC it is October 5th right now. So see WP:ESP/E for voting in two days, and add yourself to the list if you're interested in running. On a personal note, I'm considering running, as I only resigned as admin general because of time. I'm sure I could help out on the advisory committee... Anywho, watchlist that page, and be sure to read the voting method too. Regards, Redwolf24 (talk) 01:10, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'd also appreciate it everyone could expand or create the wikibios for which permission has been granted. The wikibio project simply won't be useful unless fellows actively participate; so I'd like to issue a challenge that each fellow contribute at least one sentence to two wikibios. I'll be on wikibreak for the next week and when I get back there will be prizes in store for the fellows who have the three highest edit counts on wikibios. Esperanza elections

[edit]
Thank you! :)

Thanks for voting for me in the Esperanza elections. I've been appointed to the Advisory Committee, thanks to your show of confidence in me. I'll do my best to make you proud, but please feel free to ask me for help at any time or to give me tips as to what you would like to do. Thanks for being an active member of Esperanza! I'll see you around. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 00:54, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Howdy! This is RJN (formerly UH Collegian) and I have been back editing Wikipedia again for the past 2 weeks or so after 4 months of Wikibreak. Just to let you know that I am back and glad to see you are still around. RJN 06:54, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nurse Topics

[edit]

Hi - see you have been added to Nurse Category. I, as a UK GP, have just created pages on Health Visitor and District Nurse, both are stubs and clearly from my UK & doctor perspectives. Not sure if equivalent community posts exist in the USA, but if so could you have a look at the article and offer any comments please. David Ruben Talk 01:38, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Seal for the city of Fort Worth

[edit]

Thank you so much for finding the seal! I've temporarily converted the Fort Worth infobox back to template form because it has a space for it. All you need to do is upload the image and add the filename to the image_seal line!

I apologize for the delayed response... I've been on an involuntary wiki-break due to moving, new job, etc... -Thatdog 16:05, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note

[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

[edit]
The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

Old Skool Esperanzial note

[edit]

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

[edit]
The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

Favorite Songs

[edit]

My survey has changed. I am now continuing my mission for the best songs, but now I am accepting all genres. I'm giving you a chance to revote for your top ten favorite songs of any genres (not just classic rock which is still the best). I've made a executive decision to keep the existing survey results and just add on to that with the new entries. My feeling for doing this is because classic rock is the most influential genre in music currently so it should be expressed more in the survey. Thank you for contributing in the past, and hopefully in the future. ROCK ON. RENTASTRAWBERRY FOR LET? röck 03:25, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A short Esperanzial update

[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Texan Collaboration of the month

[edit]
Texas needs your help!!

The good news is the most recent Texan Collaboration of the Month - Juneteenth has recently been featured on the Main Page! The bad news is that we chose this article six months ago and we haven't kept up to date with choosing and improving a new article.
This page is traditionally administered by Katefan0 and JCarriker, but since they are both semi-retired, Johntex is filling in. (Yet another reason to hope Katefan0 and JCarriker come back soon!!)
We are going to pick up right where we left off. Please visit Texan Collaboration of the Month and help select the new collaboration - we'll begin working on the selected article 1 July 2006.

August Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Notability of TCU Daily Skiff

[edit]

A tag has been placed on TCU Daily Skiff, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Ohconfucius 08:58, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Letter-z.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Letter-z.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 09:38, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:CSN album cover 2.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CSN album cover 2.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:18, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Clifton Hillegass

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Clifton Hillegass, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article Kandace Krueger has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article's notability is based on three beauty pageants, all of which unsourced

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
